The 7 Best Hotels in Madrid
Over the years, I’ve stayed at lots of hotels here. To help you plan your visit, here’s my list of the best hotels in Madrid:
1. Four Seasons Madrid
This five-star hotel is situated among seven ancient buildings in the heart of the city. I really enjoy the large two-story foyer, which features marble flooring, gorgeous chandeliers, and elaborately carved woodwork. While you’re just steps away from all of the city’s top attractions, there’s also much to do at the hotel, which features a stunning indoor pool, spa, and 24-hour fitness center. There are various dining options here, including an award-winning cocktail bar and a rooftop bar/restaurant. The breakfast buffet is really amazing.
The rooms here are suited for royalty, with cream-colored walls, modern art, and plenty of natural light from the enormous windows. All rooms have a variety of furnishings, including a chaise longue, desk, dining table, and amenities such as a coffee maker, flatscreen television, and minibar. The marble bathrooms are equally exquisite, complete with a big bathtub and separate shower, thick terry bathrobes and slippers, and premium amenities. There is also a nightly turndown service and 24-hour room service. If you want to indulge, this is the hotel for you.
2. Hotel Indigo Madrid–Princesa
The Indigo is a fantastic mid-range hotel choice in Argüelles. The three-star resort has a gym and serves a continental breakfast with cold cuts, pastries, fresh fruit, and tea/coffee. I especially appreciate the rooms’ friendly, bright appearance, as well as the distinctive, nature-inspired artwork on the walls.
Each room type has a huge smart TV, minibar, Nespresso machine, and desk. The mattresses are comfortable, with extra luxurious duvets, and the bathrooms are spacious, with excellent walk-in showers, hair dryers, and cozy bathrobes. The hotel is within walking distance of major attractions such as the Templo de Debod and the Royal Palace, but it is also close to a metro station, making it convenient to travel across the city.
3. Hotel Catalonia Goya
This four-star hotel, housed in a 19th-century structure, is located on Calle de Goya, one of the city’s most upscale retail areas. Despite its location on a bustling street, the hotel is calm inside, with a plunge pool, fitness center, and soundproofed rooms. The hotel also has a good breakfast buffet with fresh bread, pastries, cold meats, fruit, and a cook preparing eggs and pancakes (there is also a machine for creating your own freshly squeezed orange juice).
The spacious rooms are clean and modern, with a contemporary style and parquet floors. Each room includes a desk, a smart TV with Chromecast, a minibar, a coffee maker, and a safe. The bathrooms are very huge, with hairdryers and large showers with plenty of water pressure. While numerous sites are within walking distance, the hotel is also located near to a metro station that can transport you throughout the city in just a few minutes. I believe the value of what you receive here is fantastic.
4. L&H La Latina
This aparthotel is located in La Latina, Madrid’s gastronomic hub. There are several apartment types to select from, including ones for small groups and those with private terraces. Each kitchenette has a little fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, Nespresso machine, and a small table to sit at. There is no breakfast on-site, however there are several grocery stores and restaurants nearby.
The rooms and suites are decorated in a soothing sage green, with little décor and artwork on the walls. All apartments offer plenty of natural light and have a flat-screen TV, closet, and air conditioning. The big restrooms have complimentary amenities and showers with high water pressure. Overall, this is an excellent centrally situated hotel ideal for tourists seeking additional room or access to a kitchen.
5. Radisson RED Madrid
This four-star hotel is located in Madrid’s Art Triangle, which includes the city’s world-famous art museums, and is just steps away from beautiful green places such as the botanical gardens and Retiro. The hotel is incredibly stylish, with bursts of their distinctive red and playful artwork throughout. There are several amenities available, including a co-working area, a fitness facility, and three restaurants developed by a Michelin-starred chef. The breakfast buffet is a little pricy for Madrid, but it’s pretty varied, including eggs, pastries, and fresh juice. I also like that it opens at 6:30 a.m. (which is a lifesaver if you’re an early riser because nothing else will be open for hours).
The rooms feature a stunning contemporary style, with artwork on the walls and plenty of natural light. Each room includes a flat-screen television, a work desk, a Nespresso machine, air conditioning, a safe, and a large bathroom. There are also family rooms and rooms with large private terraces available. It’s a wonderful site to stay if you want to take the high-speed rail somewhere in Spain, as it’s directly across from the major train station.
6. VP Plaza España Design
This five-star hotel places a significant emphasis on art and design, with a private art collection of over 300 unique works by more than a dozen painters. It is situated on Plaza España, one of the city’s principal plazas. Every week, the Gingko rooftop bar on the 12th floor provides breathtaking views of the city, delicious drinks, and live music. The hotel restaurant offers a fantastic breakfast buffet, and there is also a plunge pool, sauna, magnificent spa, and fitness center.
There are nine various types of rooms and suites to select from (some with own terraces, others with ellipticals and stationary bikes). All are big and soundproof, with well chosen artwork and fresh flowers. Room amenities include a minibar, desk, Nespresso machine, Bluetooth speakers, flatscreen TV with Chromecast, and 24-hour room service. The beds are quite comfortable, with both blackout shades and a pillow menu to ensure a good night’s sleep. The bathrooms are very spacious, with a towel warmer, complimentary luxury amenities, a rainfall shower with high water pressure, and a separate bathtub. You will not lack for anything here!
7. Petit Palace Puerta del Sol
This three-star hotel is located in a 19th-century structure just steps from Madrid’s iconic square, Puerta del Sol. Given the facilities and location, it’s an excellent value. The overall design is simple but inviting, with a warm color scheme of salmon and peach tones. In the mornings, there is a large buffet breakfast that caters to all diets, with a range of pastries, cold meats, and fresh fruit.
The soundproofed rooms are smaller (as one would expect in such a prime position), but they make the most of their space with flatscreen TVs, Wi-Fi, parquet floors, modest desks, and minibars. The rooms are simple, with little décor to speak of, yet they are clean and comfy. Some rooms offer a lot of natural light, while others are windowless, so if that’s important to you, reserve a streetside room with a nice view. The completely refurbished bathrooms have rainfall showers with great water pressure.
Conclusion
Madrid offers a variety of exceptional accommodations, catering to various tastes and preferences. From luxury 5-star hotels to cozy boutiques, Madrid’s reputation as a top destination for premium hospitality is evident. When choosing a hotel, prioritize location, amenities, and ambiance. Madrid’s best hotels in Madrid centro offer convenient access to iconic landmarks and shopping districts, while those in the city center provide easy access to nightlife spots. Each hotel has been carefully selected to ensure an unparalleled stay with world-class service, exquisite design details, and exceptional dining experiences.
